Creating Destiny (2009-2010) |
For those of you wondering why I like watching Kdramas as supposed to western ones, an article from atkmagazine pretty much sums it up. Please make sure you read the post, because it somewhat explains how I feel towards this topic and also helps you understand my peculiar interest. Don't get me wrong, I also watch western shows/ episodes as well, but I just like the way Korean dramas are different.
For starters, I like the idea that their episodes are always short and not showing for several years, which is how western ones run. Although, one critic that I will mention about them is that I don't like how cheesy Kdramas can sometimes be, and they don't seem to depict real life situations. Which means when I do watch them, I'm usually very picky with which the ones I choose.
So now you might want to know what I think about dramas from other countries such as Thailand, Japan, or Taiwan. I've watched dramas from those countries, and I can mention a couple of things from each of them, but it still makes me think Kdramas are better than most them. Most Thai dramas tend to be very over dramatic and there is a lot of screaming, shouting and hitting each other, which can make it unbearable to watch. I noticed that I fast forward a lot when I watch Thai dramas. As for Japanese dramas, I have the feeling they are always depressing. Out of ten dramas I can maybe find one which is not so depressing, and even then I don't have any satisfaction after I finish watching them. Lastly I find Taiwanese dramas to be corny, sometimes boring and usually longer than necessary. That about sums up my opinion on why Kdramas are the best from the lot, but what do you think?
By the way, I don't understand Korean so I always have to read the subtitles, but I don't mind that at all. I've managed to pick up a few words and mannerisms over the years, so I've found it easier to understand the words even before reading the subtitles.
